Welcome to the webpages of the Walter Infant School and Nursery governors
We are a small group of volunteers who form the decision-making body at Walter and we include co-opted governors, parent governors, a Local Authority governor, the Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher and a Staff governor. We are elected to serve for a period of four years.
As governors, we undertake regular visits to the school throughout the year and meet up each term for formal meetings. We have a range of responsibilities including:
• Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
• Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
• Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
We are very proud to be part of the Walter community, along with its committed staff, happy, respectful and kind pupils and engaged parents and carers. We are pleased to say that the school does well in all areas we discuss, however, as governors, we are committed to challenging the school and we continually seek assurances that the school provides access to the best opportunities, for all children, to achieve and exceed expectations.
In these pages we provide an overview of the role of governor, explain the structures and responsibilities of the governing body and its committees, introduce each of the current school governors and explain how you can become involved with the governing body.
We welcome feedback and thoughts from all the parents and carers that make up our Walter Community, please do not hesitate to contact us via email Chair@walter.wokingham.sch.uk or dropping a note with the School Office at any time.
